Courthouse Being involved in any type of accident and suffering serious injury or worse can be a tragic ordeal. Severe accidents often leave victims with long and challenging roads to get back on their feet. Some victims endure agonizing pain, emotional trauma, and substantial financial burdens long after their accidents. Fortunately, victims who suffer injuries caused by another’s inattentiveness or negligence may be entitled to pursue monetary compensation through a personal injury lawsuit. The Dietrich Law Firm P.C.’s team realizes that the idea of going to court is intimidating for some. However, it does not have to be for you when you have our battle-tested trial lawyers fighting for you every step of the way.

Most people are astonished to learn that over 90 percent of personal injury cases are settled outside of court. Nevertheless, in case a settlement cannot be reached by the trial date, the case will go to court. Accident victims in Erie County are often worried about where their case will be heard. This is especially true when the accident took place outside of the Buffalo area, and the victim is concerned about driving far away to go to court. Under New York law, personal injury lawsuits can commence in any county that either the plaintiff or defendant resides at the time the lawsuit is filed. This rule is extremely beneficial to victims who were hurt while in another part of New York because they are permitted to file their claim in a court close to their house. In the rare situation that neither of the parties lives in the state, the plaintiff may select any county.

At the Dietrich Law Firm P.C., we take great pride in helping victims and their families effectively navigate through their cases from start to finish. Erie County Courts

Judge In New York State, most personal injury lawsuits are filed in a New York Supreme Court. People often get confused about the state’s name of these courts as “supreme” courts because it makes them imagine the Supreme Court of the United States. This makes people falsely believe that a New York State Supreme Court is one of the highest state courts. However, every county throughout the state maintains a supreme court. Supreme courts can hear almost any type of case brought before them, except for claims brought against the state, which are heard by the Court of Claims. Further, there are four Appellate Divisions, the next highest court, where appeals are heard. Finally, the Court of Appeals is New York State’s highest court and the last opportunity for appeals. Some relevant Erie County courts include:

As mentioned above, supreme courts can try just about any criminal or civil case. The building is located at 25 Delaware Avenue, Buffalo, New York 14202.
