Dupixent is a biologic medication that is used to treat conditions like dermatitis and asthma. It is usually administered as a shot and works by targeting protein receptors associated with inflammation. Dupixent can be used as a standalone treatment, but it is often paired with creams, ointments, or other prescription drugs.

Since Dupixent can help treat inflammation from the inside out, it can sometimes provide relief where and when other medications fail. However, scientists now believe that Dupixent could have a dark side. According to a recent wave of studies, people who take Dupixent are at risk for cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, a rare type of cancer that affects white blood cells. T-cell lymphoma is not quite as aggressive as cancers like malignant mesothelioma, but it can be difficult to detect. Once it reaches an advanced stage, patients frequently face an uphill battle.

If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with cutaneous T-cell lymphoma after taking Dupixent, you could be entitled to significant compensation. Under state and federal law, drug-makers have a duty to identify and document known or suspected complications. When manufacturers fail to warn the public about a recognized risk, they could be held liable for the cost of your injury.

A recognized U.S. News & World Report Best Law Firm, the Dietrich Law Firm P.C. knows what it takes to build a strong, compelling case for compensation. Cutaneous T-Cell Lymphoma

Cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, or CTCL, is a rare type of cancer that begins in your body’s white blood cells. More specifically, CTCL attacks white blood cells called T cells. These cells are part of your immune system and play a critical role in fighting germs and bacteria. Cutaneous T-cell lymphoma essentially pits your immune system against the body, forcing mutated, cancerous T cells to attack your skin.

In its early stages, cutaneous T-cell lymphoma is difficult to detect. Initial symptoms can be vague, and even doctors might not notice that anything is seriously wrong. As the cancer grows, it sometimes causes a rash and other skin abnormalities, like raised or scaly patches.

CTCL is also associated with symptoms such as:

  1. Patches of red, scaly, or raised skin that may or may not feel itchy;
  2. Patches of skin that have an abnormal pink, red, brown, or grey coloration;
  3. Patches of skin that are noticeably lighter than the surrounding areas;
  4. Lumps on the skin that may break open or burst;
  5. Hair loss;
  6. Thickened skin on the palms or soles of your feet; and
  7. A full-body rash that is usually scaly or itchy.

People who are diagnosed with cutaneous T-cell lymphoma usually do not develop all of these symptoms. If you have CTCL, you might not notice anything beyond a rash until the cancer spreads. This can make it very hard to accurately diagnose CTCL before it metastasizes, as it is often mistaken for eczema.

Does Dupixent Cause CTCL?

Scientists are not sure if Dupixent causes cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, but studies indicate that it could trigger, accelerate, or mask certain kinds of cancer. These include:

  1. Mycosis fungoides. Mycosis fungoides is a subtype of CTCL that typically affects the skin. Its most common symptoms are a scaly rash and raised bumps.
  2. Sezary syndrome. Sezary syndrome is another kind of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma. It is more aggressive than mycosis fungoides and more frequently affects both the skin and the blood. People with Sezary syndrome sometimes develop a full-body rash.

Both of these conditions are regularly misdiagnosed as eczema or other forms of atopic dermatitis.

In one study, researchers noted that “reports have linked [Dupixent] with exacerbating symptoms and accelerated disease progression of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma.” Another identified an “increased risk of CTCL … in the cohort of [acute dermatitis] patients who used” Dupixent.

Nobody understands why this might happen, but medical scientists believe that Dupixent could:

  1. Mask the symptoms of CTCL;
  2. Accelerate early-stage CTCL; and
  3. Worsen existing cases of CTCL.

One of the key allegations against Sanofi and Regeneron, the makers of Dupixent, is that patients were never warned about the potential risk of developing CTCL during or after treatment.
